...Then read the thread. Then send your kid to me to start some online learning & mentoring. http://larissamarantz.com/drawing-for-animators--illustrators.html
OHMYGOD! PLEASE... if you are currently working in the animation industry, PLEASE tell me what you're doing and if you got the job based on your portfolio and not proof of your degree from a 4 year school. I need a thread a mile long here to send to parents. Retweet & spread!
Can we start with @Yeaunganimation @River_Base @AshMcGivern @alittleRayn @jessiejuwono @seegsart @orangeinah @ElianaSellitto @spaceterrier Did your portfolio get you your animation job or did proof of your degree play a part in it at all?
I do want to address that I've tagged my former animation students here on this thread- these students came out of their college experience with what they needed to move into their profession. Your experience will only be as good as the institution that supports you...
Speaking for myself, I didn't graduate with a degree in animation. It was a BFA in Drawing & Painting. I took 2 more years on my own after I graduated to study animation. I studied with Vilppu, Gnass, and Zembillas. I was determined & I didn't give up until i got a foot in...
My current college students are at a difficult place as are many others. Covid will keep me from teaching in-person. They have so many things to consider. I'm literally telling my kids that this is a time to pause and focus on staying healthy- physically, mentally & emotionally..
what good is it to put yourself in harms way by going into a classroom when you could be exposing yourself/loved ones to a shortened life span? So, I'm focusing on my inner circle. Staying home. Teaching from home. Learning from home. So I can live to make an impact on the world.
If you can find a school/institution that supports that type of education, then great. If not, then maybe reconsider. These are not normal times. I'm thinking about survival-- Staying alive. Staying sane. Staying healthy. Grow & learn from places that fully support you.
