Burn Bryte: Burning Daylight first impressions thread.

I'm going to discuss what I think of this innovative new TTRPG from the mind of @JamesIntrocaso made for @roll20app. I am running this on Wednesday for the first time so it is study time for this GM!

Setting: Sci-Fantasy genre taking place in the Olaxis Galaxy. There is this strange orange substance that is devouring the entire galaxy. It is called, "The Burn."

There's a bunch of weird conspiracies about what the Burn is, no one knows. I like this mysterious plot!
Played on Roll20. I am loving the idea of a TTRPG designed and integrated with a VTT or technology. I understand this limits market reach, but it is innovative and I am interested to see how it feels/plays. I imagine it'll feel more natural to run on VTT, we shall see.
Safety cards. The rules discuss the importance of safety and content during play. There are three cards players or the GM can anonymously place on the VTT. Green for keep going, yellow for slow down, and red for stop. Cool to safety as a design feature and not an afterthought.
Character advancement. PCs unlock story paths, then they upgrade skills. Looks like this uses skill dice (d4, d6, etc) that you upgrade over time by unlocking a story path. This reminds me of some d6 games I've played, interesting.
Combat. Wow, this at first this was so weird! But they include a disclaimer to make it make sense, but combat occurs in 3 phases. In phase 1, the GM declares the enemy actions and targets, they don't take actions yet. Then we go to phase 2, the PCs preemptively act...
...players pick their own initiative and strategize. WOW they have a lot of info, enemy actions, they can then react in any order, this is truly PLAYER centric and making the narrative showcase the PC (this is what the disclaimer says so the combat makes sense when you read it)..
...during phase 2, the PCs CAN MAKE AS MANY ACTIONS AS THEY WANT!!! WHAT?! How innovative is this! Your first action is "Complexity 2" and it goes up in complexity (3, 4, etc) for each action you take. You roll your skill die x the complexity level and if there are no doubles...
...you succeed. If you roll doubles, you fail and gain a failure effect or 1 collapse point. So PCs are taking chances by taking actions...the more they take the more they are likely to fail and increase the difficulty of their encounter.
Attacks. All attacks deal 1 damage but the damage can go up if you use special abilities, items, or in circumstances that make sense. You can use SOCIAL, MENTAL, and PHYSICAL skills to deal damage!! Face PCs can fight! Huzzah!

Taking a break for now, but I'll pin and continue.
