Why can’t we open schools as community work spaces? Ts can work in their rooms to teach remotely. Ss who need care can attend when Ps are working. Ts can provide help when needed. Paras + admin + staff can be community liaisons for Ss + families who are missing/need help.
Janitors will be needed. Staff will be needed. Families have a central space. Families can rely on schools. Those who CAN stay at home do. Their learning is not sacrificed. Ps who want their kids with them can keep them in their rooms while they complete school work.
The way schools function isn’t working. We now have the opportunity to shift their role within our communities to make them more essential.
Schools could also function as spaces for Ps who need WiFi to work remotely to do so.
*I teach high school and probably have a lot of blind spots as it relates to lower grades. I’m really open to hearing teachers’ thoughts. I don’t want anyone saying we’re not looking at the big picture.
