Theme Parks shouldn’t be open, correct. Disney was compelled to reopen because the unemployment money for the state is running out and large portions of that is because you have 100,000 people between Disney and Universal alone
while the parent companies of Disney/Comcast are extremely wealthy, the parks divisions see none of that astronomical wealth directly. The giant monopolizing media conglomerates do not want to redistribute budgets to pay CMs/TMs at a currently inoperable and unprofitable division
Not only would that look bad to shareholders but it would also probably lead to even bigger budget cuts to the Parks once they reopened to recoup the loss. As a company, they can’t risk that.
However-
However-
It is abhorrent that capitalism has compelled companies- not just theme park companies. To be so worried about the bottom line that they are willing to risk lives for it. This is what the consumerist culture has wrought.
At the end of the day we should- both companies and people alike- be advocating for and trying to do the most good for the most good people. Wear your masks, wash your hands, stay away from people. Make an effort. That’s it.
The two-fold issue is that while, yes, there is a pandemic, people still need money to exist in America and there isn’t a whole lot of money when there is literally no active economy. It’s a problem with capatalism and a fight that can’t be won without revolutionary measures.
It’s the consequences of a broken system that we, collectively, have allowed to thrive. An international pandemic followed by a stateside homelessness crisis isn’t something that any American is mentally equipped to handle.
