If we were a society that cared about children and families, kids would have access to food, to counseling, to health care, to physical activity, to friends and emotional support, outside of school.
The fact that kids and families rely on schools for so much comprehensive care is a societal failure.
Demanding teachers put themselves at further risk - yet again - while simultaneously slashing funding and threatening their livelihood is not demonstrating how critical schools are, it's undermining public education.
Grade levels are made up, standards are narrow and selective, kids are not falling behind, they're growing and learning in a pandemic. 180 days, 6.5 hour days, all made up. We can do school differently. Dare to dream.
