In 1789, Tipu, the ruler of #Mysore after invading #Malabar, plundering Temples and Churches, converting tens and thousands of people, advanced to #Travancore in the dream of plundering the very rich #SreePadmanabhaSwamyTemple, situated in #Thiruvananthapuram, Travancore Kingdom.
Tipu & his army was confronted by Travancore army at Nedumkotta in the present day Thrissur district. Tipu was not only defeated by the Travancore army, he also was injured badly& became lame permanently. He was carried away in Plalanquin before Travancore army could capture him.
Travancore Nair army captured his sword in that battle. At that time Dharma Raja Karthika Thirunal Rama Varma was the King of Travancore. Dharma Raja gave refuge to thousands of Hindus and Christians in Travancore, who fled from Malabar from the persecution of Tipu's invasion.
