Really excited to share my new piece in @PoPpublicsphere out today. It captures some of my work over the last 2 years related to the #FlintWaterCrisis, and the policy lessons we should be taking from it. Three take-homes: https://cup.org/3j03yjl
1. The #FlintWaterCrisis highlights the multiple policy domains critical to the delivery of safe drinking water in our communities, including policies and programs that govern and support municipal fiscal health. Safe water requires more than the SDWA.
2. Both the SDWA and state level municipal fiscal health policies failed #Flint spectacularly, highlighting the multiple, compounding vulnerabilities of poor and minority communities in the US to bad policy and poor implementation.
3. The response to the Flint water crisis has centered on shoring up SDWA guidelines at the state and federal levels, which fails to address the underlying policy drivers of the #FlintWaterCrisis and leaves other communities vulnerable.
