Since 1947,most Gurduwaras remain unoccupied but in a state of ruin. But almost all Mandirs converted into schools,mosques,madrassas, or residential quarters for refugees. In parts of East Punjab,Muslim sites appropriated for articulating a Dalit identity
e.g.Sanatan Dharam Mandir is now Islamia High School, and Dayanand Anglo-Vedic College (D.A.V. College) is Islamia College Lahore.
