They matched everyone into a waiting boat that will take them to Igbolands.The soldiers also arrested King Davies Bobmanuel who was the traditional ruler of Abonnema at that time. He pleaded that his people should be released and he should be taken but his pleas fell on deaf ears
Help came around 12pm when Nigerian soldiers stormed Abonnema through Buguma and rescued King Davies Bobmanuel and his people from the grip of the ruthless Biafran soldiers whose aim was to drive away the initial occupants of the land and dominate possession
June 21st is called GO TO NIGER day in Abonnema and on this day Abonnema people wear camouflage army uniforms to mark that event of 21st June 1968. Most people go as far as acting a short drama (as shown below) to explain what happened that faithful day
The GO TO NIGER LIBERATION DAY or ABONNEMA FREEDOM DAY is a day filled with fun. Events are rounded up with laying of wealths at the graveside of the fallen heroes of Abonnema.
