a short thread of what’s going on in poland, because we sure as hell are going down.

the latest presidential elections:

1st round - a gay candidate had only 2% of votes, meanwhile a fascist had 8%, and a homophobe got 43%

2nd round - the same homophobe is winning for now

our current president signed a thing called "family card", which determines that:
• family is a relationship between man and woman only
• lgbt couples can’t adopt children
• lgbt "ideology" can’t be popularized in public institutions

he also called lgbt+ people an ideology.

he said his parents' generation had struggled against communist ideology for 40 years and "they didn't fight for this so that a new ideology would appear that is even more destructive".

five polish provinces declared themselves "free from lgbt ideology".
after being given a warning from european commission, after being threatened with cutting eu funds, basically nothing happened.

"public media" - tvp - are being controlled by law and justice party. their only mission is to glorify that party and our president.

they were also given over 5 billion dollars (2 mld zł) - that money was supposed to be given to oncology.

the current president pardoned a p*dophile, saying "they (a wife and a now adult victim) live in the same house with their oppressor, it’s a family issue"

there’s no judicial independence in poland. everything’s rigged, everyone’s controlled, there’s absolutely no justice.

the party’s leader said that lgbt people are "a threat to polish identity". a conservative newspaper, gazeta polska, distributed "anti lgbt zone" stickers in one of the issue.
it’s known that some people put razors under the stickers to hurt those who wanted to rip them off.

a lot of calm and safe pride parades were brutally interrupted, people were attacked, many of them got severely injured.

abortion here is legal in selected cases. they want to ban it for good, also putting women and doctors in jail for up to 4 years.

after last year’s pride parade in Kalisz streets were disinfected.

catholic church plays more important role than anything else. priests convicted of pedophilia are not being fired, they’re just being moved to another parish. they’re being covered by the government and people themselves.

another absurd situation:

(1) a guy who crashed into PM’s car in 2017 was sentenced to a year in prison and 20 hours of labour, but it wasn’t actually his fault.

(2) a couple that brought explosive devices to a pride parade in Lublin last year was also sentenced to a year.

bbc’s article on lgbt+ rights in poland:

lgbt people, people of colour, people of other races and religions are being assaulted and even killed here on a daily basis. you can get beaten up by simply wearing rainbow socks.

our current PM says that coronavirus is like a flu - it disappears in the summer. they force us to wear masks and distance from others, yet they don’t care about that themselves.

this picture is from 2 days ago. any masks? distance?

our current president also wants to ban sexual education in schools. he states that it’s parents’ role to educate their children in that subject.

there are trucks driving around cities with anti abortion and anti lgbt signs. they often park around schools, causing little children to look at this monstrosities:
• "abortion kills"
• connecting lgbt people to pedophilia
• "those people want to educate your kids. stop them"
