Think I want to try and chronicle my book editing on twitter in this thread. So here goes something. So far, today’s editing is flushing the first part of chapter 1 with a little more character depth and working on flow while fixing typos.
Chapter 1 is edited. Enter chapter 2 and page nine having attempted to flesh out some world-building a bit more. Who knows how much it& #39;ll help.
The short chapter 2 is edited. Cut out some filler stuff. Onto chapter 3. Still want to figure out a unifying format for jumps in small amount of time.
Chapter 3, literally a page where I introduce an antagonist, is edited. Started editing chapter 4 and noticing that it& #39;s hard describing how close my 2 main characters are with the third. Think I did a better job after some tweaks, but still.
Chapter 4, and 19 pages, are through round 1 of edits. Definitely streamlined some stuff with chapter four to get the plot moving a little faster.
23 pages are edited, we& #39;re approaching chapter 5 having cleared round 1 of edits at the bottom of the current page. But i& #39;m also tempted to add some stuff.
I& #39;m a little ways into chapter 6, which is literally just a time jump from the previous chapter, and it was slow going today because most of the page that was edited was re-working a scene from the 1st draft that I& #39;d kept in for this draft. It just didn& #39;t fit anymore
Rolled that edited page into the end of chapter 5 and starting the next on a different note. Flows better this way
after no editing at all yesterday, a good chunk of this evening has been re-working part of chapter 6 and the first action scene that kickstarts the rest of the book. We& #39;re 29 pages in and this is where I feel the story starts getting its footing
6 chapters, 30 pages edited.
edited roughly 3 pages today at the start of chapter 7
Chapter 8, mostly focused on introducing someone who becomes a supporting character and the initial villain, is edited. Good progress overall on round 1 of edits.
about halfway through page 44 as of tonight& #39;s stoppage in edits. Moving the plot along.
winding down edits for tonight at the top of page 47. Today felt like a very distracted editing day when it happened. but with around 2 pages done, i& #39;ll take that. The main tripping point today was some lore stuff that needed clarified/mentioned.
The lore stuff was good background for the story going forward. We& #39;ve got a bit of an info dump ahead in the rest of chapter 9, but I want to make it a good character moment too and a good intro for a supporting character
This isn’t to say the lore stuff is done. We’re very much into a chunk of the book where I both tie some unites threads up, throw some lore into the story and move the characters and plot forward. But in this round of editing I want the scene to feel more organic. We’ll see
Editing through the initial bit of lore and background has been a slog since my last tweet in this thread. It’s almost done though and it’s definitely better. It’ll need reworking in future edits for sure though. Lots of slow editing yesterday and today (Thursday & Friday)
