Thread: @UCF has repeatedly stated the 1st Amendment protects Professor Charles Negy’s tweets as they are his “personal opinions”. However, his book ‘White Shaming’ is required course material & directly correlates w/ his tweets proving his beliefs + biases permeate his teaching
Dr. Negy also promotes his Twitter account & encourages his students to follow him every semester. Based on the content of his tweets, one can only imagine how the minority students in his class feel after reading them knowing he has authority over the class & their grade/future
His book ‘White Shaming: Bullying Based on Prejudice, Virtue-Signaling, and Ignorance’ is required course material for his Cross-Cultural Psychology courses. He even mentions this on page 9: “The spirit of this present book resembles the nature of my Cross-Cultural Psych course.”
Does @UCF’s Collective Bargaining Agreement 2019-2021 allow for academic freedom? Yes, BUT “Academic freedom is accompanied by corresponding responsibility on the part of employees.”
This tweet regarding “black wealth” is a DIRECT quote from his book (page 5). On this page, Dr. Negy also falsely claims Jerry Demings is the mayor of Orlando. *He is the mayor of Orange County. Buddy Dyer is the mayor of Orlando and has been since March 1, 2003*
All three of these tweets directly correlate with Dr. Negy’s book (page 27) where he asserts that minorities have become “sacred cows” because we can’t criticize or offend them, which he is claiming is “black privilege”.
Both of these tweets by Negy are pulled straight from his book (page 24) where he denies the existence of white privilege and systematic racism using generalized data.
On page 23, Negy claims that African Americans are not affected by Jim Crow laws and slavery anymore and that people hold onto this absurd belief “for their own reasons”. Negy tweeted that focusing on these events “reflects a mental illness at the national level”.
Negy falsely claims with no source that “poor people in the U.S. aren’t really poor” because they have cable TV, A/C, & hot water 24/7 on page 2. When in reality “The average household uses 75% of their annual income on basic expenses (rent, food, utilities) only” (U.S. Census).
Dr. Negy states on page 95 that “Multiculturalism is a religion in the U.S. + Western Europe. ‘Diversity is our strength’ is established dogma that cannot be questioned.” Isn’t diversity a core pillar of @UCF’s values? Isn’t cultural competence essential in practicing Psychology?
When discussing minority representation in the media, Negy insists that “all people are free to compete for positions they desire, then outcomes do not need to be ‘socially rigged’” when statistically POC are underrepresented in the media. (Hollywood Diversity Report 2018 & UCLA)
On pg 5, Negy attempts to explain away data pointing to racial wealth inequality by claiming the point is “U.S. minorities can pursue becoming millionaires if they aspire to & posses either the motivation, education, skills, or talent to become one.” This is objectively false.
Similarly, he frequently uses the racial demographics of the NBA as a way to combat arguments of racial inequality. @UCF gave the @NBA an ‘A’ grade overall in their 2019 report card because of their “commitment to building the most diverse and inclusive environments” (ESPN).
Negy consistently tweets & writes about the SAT/ACT in his book (pg 26 & 96) belittling Hispanics and African Americans calling them “less qualified”, “less capable”, and “less competent” than Whites + Asian Americans while saying college’s “should just mail minorities a degree”
Additionally, he constantly points to math, verbal, + reading skills as a way to distinguish Whites & Asian Americans as superior to African Americans and Hispanics intellectually and, consequently, in society calling them “uncompetitive students” & ignoring socioeconomic status
Dr. Negy repeatedly chastises any institution, including his own, for valuing diversity, specifically in hiring practices + admittance, yet he himself was a “Diversity Enhancement hire” at @UCF according to his CV... how ironic
Professor Negy goes as far as BRAGGING about getting away with racist language and behavior within 15 minutes at @UCF during his Cross-Cultural Psychology class in 2016 on page 22. He oddly adds that the lawyer was “an African American and luckily for me, she was fair-minded.”
He openly mocks a Muslim student from his Cross-Cultural Psychology course on page 42, making assumptions about her being ignorant regarding her own religion and culture because she had never “lived on the Arabian Peninsula”.
On page 17, Negy rebukes almost every university and college across the country, including @UCF, for allowing for minority student organizations like the Latin American Student Org but, not promoting “the white American or European culture” or “uniting Whites or Europeans”
These pages are deeply disturbing for a Psychology professor to believe let alone teach & indoctrinate young minds with. It is harmful to perpetuate these disturbingly racist beliefs + ideologies especially at a minority-serving institution like @UCF. #UCFireHim #UCFFireHim

Not only is Charles Negy’s book ‘White Shaming’ required course material, this racist garbage is also sold at the @UCF book store... Shameful! (Video taken 6/29/20 @ 8:45 pm)
Even his book publisher, Kendall Hunt publishing company, had the common sense to drop him and are no longer publishing nor selling it. Management gave me a quote on why they made this decision.
