10 Twitter Lessons Learned from @EdLatimore & @ZubyMusic

For the past 3 months I’ve mentored or consulted with Ed & Zuby to grow my Twitter account.

They have shaved years off my learning curve & I hope to help you do the same today.

Here's what I learned...

*THREAD*
Hi, my name is Dan Go & I’m a body transformation coach to high achieving entrepreneurs.

I have grown my Twitter account from 0 to 8.4k in the past 90 days.

28 day impressions are at 7.48 million & so far I’ve added almost 3k to the tribe in July.

All to thanks to Ed & Zuby.
For the uninitiated...

@EdLatimore is a former pro boxer, intermediate chess player & blogger.

Started twitter January of 2012.

His account is currently at 123k
@ZubyMusic is a musician, stand up comic, podcaster & current women's deadlift record holder.

Started twitter in July 2009.

His account is at 299k followers.
That's 422k followers & 19 years of experience.

This is a Yoda-like mastery from two men who grew their accounts from scratch.

Which is to point out one fact...

When they talk I listen & take copious notes.

Here are the Ed & Zuby's Rules to Crushing Twitter...
Rule #1 - Cut the fat

Write what you need to say. Then go back 1-2x more to cut the excess fat.

Make your words are piercing & straight to the point.

Want to tweet better? Get rid of the fluff.
Rule #2 - Build an Audience. Forget monetization.

The only focus for a small account is consistency, engagement & being entertaining.

Ed & Zuby waited years to start monetizing their brand because they realized the best way to sell is to a hungry crowd.
Rule #3 - Your aim is to be prolific

Post, comment, like & then post some more.

There is no need to hold back as there's no such thing as too much content.

This is especially true if you're being educational, & entertaining.
Rule #4 - Be irreplaceably authentic

Say what is truly on your mind & leave others to figure it out for their own.

Always tweet in your voice.

The way they tweet is the they way they talk in real life.
Rule #5 - Engage, engage, engage

Zuby & Ed engaged with every single follower until it wasn't humanly possible.

They know tribe is everything.

Don't be afraid to like posts, comment on tweets and reply back to your followers.

Never be too cool to engage.
Rule #6 - Don't be an asshole but don't be a pushover either.

You never see Ed or Zuby start drama on purpose as it's not good for business or the soul.

Yet if someone does step to them they have enough knowledge to stand up for their thoughts.

It's about balance.
Rule #7 - Tweet from the hip.

There’s a certain magic to tweeting in real time that can’t be replaced with a scheduler app.

The trick is to be in the moment & to let your words fly.

If it's relevant for you it will be relevant for others.

So drop in. Let it rip.
Rule #8 - Do not take yourself seriously

If you get emotional in this game you’re gonna get caught.

Ed & Zuby’s approach to twitter is casually serious.

They do not take their tweets as life or death.

They are grounded in themselves & treat twitter like a game.
Rule #9 - Don't box yourself in

Fitness guys want to talk about fitness stuff.

Money guys talk money.

The ones who grow the most have a niche but talk about everything under the sun.

Do not box your thoughts in.

To become bigger you must be bigger than what you do.
Rule #10 - You're always tweeting to 1 to 1

Not thousands. Just one.

Every time you tweet you are reaching out to someone specific.

Maybe you're tweeting to your 20 year old self, maybe to a friend but it's always one person.

Don't speak the masses. Speak to one person.
Bonus Rule - Keep that edge.

As accounts get bigger they pull their punches.

They play it safe until no one cares about their thoughts anymore.

Ed & Zuby still have an edge to how they write. It keeps them honest

Keep an edge to your words & always sharpen your blade.
Here's a couple of other nuggets...

-If a tweet is running viral let it run.
-The best tweets have a shelf life. Stoke the fire while you can.
-Your profile is prime real estate.
-Be cool to others because kindness scales
-Retweeting is passing juice (Ed's words)
Where to go from here?

I started my twitter journey with Ed’s course “Engagement is the New Cocaine”

I continued with Zuby & @joserosado course Twitter conquering:

If you're serious about the Twitter game I'd start there.
Thanks for reading :)

Big thank you goes out to Ed & Zuby.

If it wasn’t for them my growth wouldn’t possible.
