BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION is one of those ‘confetti’ phrases.
Cheap, disposable and ‘thrown around’ to make things look jazzy.
‘Innovation’ and ‘systems thinking’ have been there.
The basis isn’t bad, it just become another
Management Fad...

Management Fads come and go
Transformation (even Agile Transformation) is just the latest in an industrial scale production line
More magical Silver Bullets
Richard Pascale charted their growth from 1950’s to the early 2000’s
Spot the ones you’ve seen ⬇️ http://bit.ly/2qlXHdy
Basically it’s mostly ‘good old fashioned change’
Dressed in New Clothes, driven by ‘corporate narcissism and powered by BS’ to paraphrase @PaulBromford
Who nails it in this post https://bit.ly/2Wd5KdF
With the epic quote:
‘People don’t resist change, they resist bullshit’
⬇️
Call me pedantic, but
I like to stick to actual definitions, and avoid ‘confetti phrases’
Much of the ‘Transformation’ I know of is Continuous Improvement with; glitter/confetti/new clothes
Nothing wrong with CI (I’m a huge fan @AllWalesCIC)
Let’s’ just say what things are.
This won’t be popular with the ‘confetti throwers’
But I reckon that Transformation should be,
Small, imperfect and done without a massive fuss.
A bit like Fight Club, you don’t talk about it.

Ref what @snowded says creating sustainable change:
👉do small things
👉make them safe to fail
👉do many, at the same time
👉with the people it matters to
👉spread what works
👉learn from what doesn’t

Why are we stuck with ‘confetti throwing’?
And
Transformation that isn’t transformative?
Because,
Simple but Wrong Answers
are easier to sell than
Complex but Right (and harder to do)
Some people get it
@PaulBromford @PaulMatthews67
Real Transformation is COMPLEX.
It doesn’t fit with traditional project management methods
Have a look @tobyjlowe if you don’t believe me.
👉outcomes cannot be defined up front
👉a tightly scripted ‘road map’ won’t get you there
👉milestones are a figment of your imagination
Don’t get me started on setting targets and measuring progress
And
Controlling the message is probably going to make things worse Creating unrealistic expectations
And leaving you feeling ‘done to’
See- Outcome Measurement is a Dead Cobra ⬇️ http://bit.ly/2L5a5vD
So,
👉Please don’t say ‘transformation’ when you mean something else
👉Recognise actual transformation is Complex but Right
👉Stay away from Silver Bullets and Confetti Throwing
