Just watched Juanita on Netflix and realized that one of my favorite movie genres is women of color breaking the monotony of the routine and seeking adventure, wherever it may be.
The thrill seeker, the spiritual seeker is often portrayed by white women (Think Eat Pray Love, Wild) so any movie starring a WOC in such a role is a breath of fresh air. We are rarely portrayed as seeking to improve ourselves, on a quest for enlightenment, feeling joy & pleasure
Not enough of us seek adventure anymore. Despite all the hardships, may we all take a moment or several to thrill seek, to live a little. We deserve the joy.
If anything, living during a pandemic eerily reminds us of our own mortality. A fact we all know but find impossible to truly conceptualize. Life must be more than worry, trauma, hardship, sickness, and boredom.
