Debunk of Nikola’s hydrogen fuel cell competitive advantage claim on weight

Trevor Milton’s 3-part schtick:

a) Truckers get paid 50¢ per lb

b) Nikola Two weighs 10,000 lb less than BEV

c) A lot of trucks run full 80,000 lb GVW loads

Does anyone actually believe truckers get paid 50¢ per lb & make millions of dollars a year?

A per-mile pay is by far the most common type of base pay in the trucking industry & the rate can vary between 28¢ to 45¢ per mile according to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics
3/5

Does anyone believe the Nikola Two is 10,000 lb lighter than a battery-electric Class 8 semi-tractor?

The actual difference in weight is less than 4,000 lb and with battery improving continuously, this difference will keep decreasing over time
4/5

Does anyone believe most Class 8 tractor-trailers haul full 80,000 lb GVW loads in the U.S.?

More than 90% of hauls weigh less than 73,000 lb, which means a semi-tractor can easily weigh up to 7,000 lb more without it having any effect on the weight of the cargo he carries
5/5

Nikola’s entire weight advantage argument is complete bullshit!

The numerous disadvantages of hydrogen fuel cell trucks are however very real: fuel availability, monopoly & cost, energy efficiency, inspections, maintenance, breakdowns, lifespan, safety hazards, etc. $NKLA
