— thread of why narusasu should have been canon

okay, lets start from the beginning. as children, naruto and sasuke hated each other. naruto was the annoying little kid that grew up without parents or a family, and because of the village hating him, he was a mischievous child.

sasuke on the other hand, grew up with a family, and because his entire clan was murdered, no one really wanted to know him. he was a very unlikable person, and that caused him to feel alone. same way as naruto.

“those who break the rules are scum, but those who abandon their comrades are worse than scum.” team 7 was the first team that passed kakashi’s test. it was all because sasuke put his hard feelings aside for naruto and let him eat. even though he knew feeding naruto meant losing.

of course, naruto and sasuke were rivals. we see numerous times where they compete to do better than the other. but when the zabuza-haku arc started, we saw naruto and sasuke work hard to control their chakra. we even see sasuke ask naruto what sakura told him to help his control

though at the end of that day, they both trained hard, competing against each other, but together. they eventually made it back to kakashi and sakura together. they could have left one another, but they didnt.

skip to the fight with zabuza and haku. we know that sasuke has a very ignorant attitude. he has showed throughout the show to not care about anyone else and only get revenge on itachi. however, when he saw naruto could have died, he sacrificed himself instead.

he specifically stated that “his body moved on its own” and that he “didnt know why” he saved naruto. its too early to say that they loved each other at this point, but i think its fair to say that sasuke cared about naruto, enough to risk his own life for narutos.

theres many moments after this between naruto and naruto shippuden where sasuke and naruto become closer, where they’re able to call each other best friends. some of these moments include sasuke’s chunnin exam entrance—stating he “wants to fight naruto the most” —

and when sasuke asked naruto if he “was hurt, scaredy cat” and naruto returned this when fighting orochimaru and saving sasuke, asking him if he “was hurt, scaredy cat.” shortly after this, sasuke leaves the village.

now this is VERY important. after sasuke left, naruto made a promise to sakura that he will bring sasuke back because “thats his ninja way.”

before sakura said this, she said “the only one who can bring him back is you.” why would she say this? shikamaru, choji, kiba, shino, etc were all ready to bring him back alongside naruto. but she said only naruto could do it. she obviously knew they had a connection.

ah yes. lets get started on their first fight. you can literally tell how hurt naruto was to find out sasuke wanted to kill him. but he wasnt hurt at this fact, he was hurt to see sasuke constantly torturing himself with all the hate inside him.

(first vid) in this we see naruto admitting how he felt about sasuke. he wanted to be his friend but he was also jealous that sasuke was so much better than him, even though they were both lonely kids. regardless of sasukes attitude, people still wanted to be like him—

and girls still liked him. this was something naruto didnt have. but seeing sasuke acknowledge him made him happy. it made him understand his worth. and he simply couldnt let someone who cared about him go.

another thing we see in their fight is that right after naruto tells sasuke they share a bond, sasuke tells him he will just have to break that bond. by doing this, he awakened his 3 tomoe sharingan, which we know is only awakened when suffering from some type of loss.

now. VERY IMPORTANT SCENE. when their fight is over, sasuke’s headband falls off and onto the ground. this symbolizes that sasuke was severing his bond to naruto and leaving the village.

we also see that sasuke doesnt kill naruto to awaken his mongekyo, as itachi told sasuke he had to “kill his best friend” to awaken it. sasuke later states that he didnt kill naruto because he didnt want to follow in itachi’s footsteps and wanted to make his own path.

this is because he knew if he killed naruto he would awaken his mongekyo. he would have suffered the trauma of losing his closest friend. sure, he didnt kill naruto because he didnt want to follow itachi, but it still would have hurt him to kill naruto.

so finally we start shippuden. we see naruto, sakura, sai and yamato have found sasuke. sasuke tells them again he is not going back to the village and has severed his bond with naruto. he then jumps right in front of naruto and tries to stab him with his sword that sai dodges.

sasuke tells naruto that he should have been training to become hokage instead of searching for him. then naruto says, “someone who cant even save one friend isnt fit to become hokage, right sasuke?”

naruto and sasuke werent stupid. sasuke wasnt actually going to kill him. and naruto didnt move because it shock him to see sasuke change that much in 3 years. he wasnt able to stop him before, and he wouldnt be able to stop him now. sasuke did want to test narutos power, though.

after this, we witnessed jiraya’s death. this hurt naruto a lot, and he finally realized how sasuke felt. he even says this in the show (i cant find the episode

ONE OF MY FAVORITE SCENES! in this episode, sakura lies to naruto to protect him from the truth: that sasuke has practically gone mad and he pretty much needs to die, since his evil actions have not stopped after killing itachi.

sai stays and tells naruto that sakura only lied to him (telling him that she loves him) because of the promise naruto made to her when sasuke left the village. however, naruto told sakura that he wants to bring sasuke back because his own free will, not because of the promise.

when naruto finds out that sakura wants to kill sasuke on her own (signifying that she basically gave up on bringing him back) gaara shows up and says the same thing to naruto. that”if he has what it takes to become a kage, he’ll know what to do with sasuke”

this causes naruto to literally have panic attack. he realizes that everyone is against pursuing to bring sasuke back to the village and naruto begins hyperventilating at the thought of literally losing sasuke. everyone has given up on sasuke EXCEPT naruto.

naruto finally sees all of sasuke’s hate. he says “the only one who can handle all of your hatred is me” in which sasuke asks “why are you so obsessed with me?” and naruto says “because im your friend.” sasukes soft face is a realization that naruto will never give up on him.

naruto says that the next time they fight they will both die, but thats a risk he’s willing to take, because he wants to consume all of sasuke’s hate. he wants sasuke to be free of his burdens.

fast forward to when itachi and naruto meet and naruto asks for his blessing—i mean when itachi entrusts sasuke to naruto.

even itachi knew that the only person who could bring sasuke back to the good side was naruto. naruto believed until the end that he could bring sasuke back. he never gave up on him.
“he was always mine to deal with”

during the war, after sasuke revived orochimaru and went to go revive the past 4 hokage’s, there was a massive increase in naruto’s chakra that team taka felt (after neji’s death), and sasuke just KNEW something caused naruto to use so much chakra.

although sasuke didn’t say anything about it, orochimaru was able to sense that sasuke was concerned for naruto. this is unexpected because as we know, sasuke still wants to get revenge on the village (though his motives were different).

man theres just so much i wanna say about their final battle

let me gather my evidence

remember that scene where sasuke’s headband fell off? i said that symbolized sasuke severing his bond to naruto and leaving the village. in this scene, naruto’s headband falls off, symbolizing that he will fix his bond with sasuke and bring him back to the village.

in this scene, we see that naruto and sasuke are basically out of chakra. however, naruto was still able to get up and fight because he’s sasuke’s “one and only friend”

DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THIS!!!! this is literally sasuke’s coming out story pls. this whole episode was sasuke realizing that he was in fact in the wrong and naruto cared about him so much. in this scene specifically, he freaks out for a second when he sees naruto in trouble

*cue my bio* we see sasuke gets the answer he always wanted. what a friend really means to naruto. and naruto tells him that he just cant see sasuke in pain. sasuke even looks surprised at his respose. it goes to show that when no one was there for sasuke, naruto was.

when sasuke finally sees narutos memories, and that itachi entrusted sasuke with naruto, sasuke has a mental breakthrough, where he sees himself beside naruto, and as a part of the village. he finally sees how naruto really, truly feels about him.

Also, this was sasuke’s dialoge right after naruto told him what a friend meant to him. (im not sure the second post was, but the first post definitely was)

this was the scene that really got to me. even though sasuke was able to see how much naruto cared about him, and see that he does have a place in the village, he knew that not everyone would see him the way naruto does. therefore, he told naruto that he would—

end his life to basically make up for his sins. naruto tells him that instead of killing himself, come to the village and help him make it a better place instead. he said that “all he wants to do is make all shinobi cooperate with each other” and that it “definitely includes you”

then sasuke says “theres no guarantee i wont stand against you again” and naruto says “ill stop you again” and sasuke says “how can you be so sure?” and all naruto says is “dont make me repeat myself” before sasuke starts crying. and we all know that naruto was going to say—

“because im your one and only friend.”

now this is where i think shippuden should have ended!! (i wanted it to end with naruto becoming hokage) but this was the perfect end to the story. naruto finally brings sasuke back to the village, and gives him his headband back. (yes i know sasuke left, but hes good now.)

the next part takes place in the boruto timeline, but i havent actually watched boruto. so im just gonna add what i know and if i do end up watching it, ill add more to the thread.

so in boruto, sasuke marries sakura and has a daughter, sarada and naruto marries hinata and has a son and a daughter, boruto and himawari. sasuke isnt around his family much due to him wanting to atone for his sins. while he is away, he does keep in touch with naruto.
