Sort of little degeneration of the revolution thread. I am not particulary big brained but I decided this might be interesting for me to talk about. I don't remember every single detail but might be good to throw up some general ideas.
So first of all let's set up when the degeration actualy happened. Most opponents of the Soviet union will point to year 1924, especialy Trotskyists which were so apparently complicit in the destruction of the revolution and everything it stood for.
This idea is however incorrect. Russian revolution did not meet it's failure upon death of Lenin and it would be unreasonable to assume that the revolutionary leadership would have been so short-sighted to let such thing happen. In fact this degeneration was ongoing process.
This process started as the revolution was pushed back. As Marxist Lenin very well knew what had to be done. Communism needed to be secured internationaly to establish itself and take root. This was profoundly happening too and at first many countries were set ablaze.
Germany was the prime example, however likewise Hungary and even as far as Mexico, at the same time Czechoslovakia, France and Italy, even Spain were on the verge of revolution that could have been triggered had other countries in Europe succesfully fallen.
This however did not happen and as Germany and Hungary were crushed under the iron boot of the bourgeoise, Lenin knew things were not looking well. This is the marking point at which things started to go downhill. With problems abroad as well as at home, things were not good.
In this time of strife, much of the Bolshevik leadership turned towards unfortunate measures, and so the Soviets were supressed and taken from the hands of the workers and capitalism was reintroduced in the union, with the party betraying one principle after another.
This lead to much discontent with factions inside the union growing disillusioned with the new way of ruling. Among these groups most notably the syndicalist Worker's opposition and of course Gavril Myasnikov's left-communist faction of Worker's group of the RCP.
This disconent blew up in the year 1921 with the most significant event, described by Lenin himself as the most dangerous force to threaten the party rule, the Krostadt rebellion. Due to Stalinist propaganda often confused as anarchist uprising (not the case)
While this attempt was rather a show of how low the party has stooped than a hope for new beggining, many old Bolsheviks took up arms against the party rule before being crushed by the infamous butcher of construct and aspiring oppurtunist Leon Trotsky.
At this point NEP was already in full swing and the power of Soviets was crushed and so Russia became isolated, not being able to establish a genuen communist regime as they had been locked inside their own borders, however the shit was going to get even wilder.
In 1924 Lenin would go on to die and so Stalin and Trotsky would begin their struggle to between the head capitalist autocrat, leading to exile of Trotsky and oppurtunistic change of his rhetoric (to now himself sell the idea USSR was degenerate, which is in great part his fault)
Meanwhile at home, Stalin would go on to appropirate Lenin's aesthetics to legitimize his capitalist autocracy, codifying the word "Marxism-Leninism" and estalbishing the bureocratic regime that would go on to represent the Internationale as decadent shell of it's former self.
Not really feeling like expanding on this, could go forward but I don't think anyone will read this, this is just point of reference if someone will need an explanation. If I got something wrong you are of course free to correct me comrades.
