Bout time I actually finish this. Literally been in my backlog for years lol. Gonna start over though since it's been so long. Imma live tweet this as I go so ya might wanna mute this thread.
Why is there no edit button so I wouldn't have had to repost this lol

lol my guy thought he was in there and was about to get some play.
Y'know I would hear complaints about how early TG art wasn't good but honestly it's not that bad. Though I do remember it getting better as the series went on.

Bro looks kinda clean here ngl. Though I don't think these taglines could get any edgier
"The despair that lurks within" "dark fate of the mysterious man!" Lol

I'll pick this back up tomorrow/later. I'm reminded why I originally liked Touka. Saved Kaneki from doing something he'd regret even if it meant forcibly putting him down and getting hurt doing it.
Ah shit. It begins. Kaneki's descent to madness.
Doesn't feel like it's been much but I'm 62 chapters deep already.

vs Jason and Ayato is just peak Kaneki. Say what you want about the series as a whole but this was raw as fuck.
Read a whole bunch in 1 sitting lol. Iirc I'm close to the end and about to get into Re. To think all of this happened cuz my man just wanted to go on a date.
I like how they subverted expectations and instead of being a happy reunion Touka just calls Kaneki out 1/2
Genuinely surprised that last panel didn't become more of a meme than that 1 image. The look on his face at the end just says it all. 2/2
Amon, you fool. Do you know what people would do to have a short haired lady in a suit try to aggressively make out with you

R A W
The fact that this goofy ass ape dude was actually the hardest motherfucker in Anteiku all along is sending me.

Finished up this last arc. About to start Re soon which will be mostly new for me. This last showdown was pretty good. Cameo by Vash and the way they fucking introduced Arima was OD. "Death was towering before me"
No way Amon is actually dead lol. Probably kidnapped and experimented on by that scientist. Maybe turned into a half ghoul like Kaneki.
Also jfc that last panel, what an ending. Something something we live in a society.

More dope art. I really like the first one.
Almost forgot to mention it but the epilogue was really good, too. Got more insight into Kaneki's split personality plus seeing Juuzou change a bit and carry on for his boss was nice.

Season 2 sucked but they got this right. Been listening to this and the openings again and it's just too good.
Welp. I'm surprised Takizawa's alive but this pretty much confirms that they probably experimented on Amon, too.
So after a break for a few days I started reading again. Is there a name for this sort of thing? Reluctant friend discovers he actually enjoyed the time he spent with the group cuz I feel like I've seen this before.
I don't get why Re gets mixed reviews? First arc or 2 were kinda weird but it seriously picks up after that, these recent chapters have been heat. Series has a way of making you care a lot about characters you don't get to know too well.
This was cool. Tsukiyama reflecting on how strong Kaneki was back then plus this man just jumping out the window
Fujvrbligdhkn @JustSlashie you were right
Baaaaaanjou I kinda missed this goofball. Re has definitely improved but it has this thing where they just....forget about characters from the first half? Lol.
Hyped up Sachi to be this insanely strong guy only for him to get smoked by Arima easy. Atleast they should more of his connection to Rize
I'm losing my mind. Amon is back and is prob the 1 eyed king, Washuu clan was the leader of the clowns who infiltrated Aogiri, Anteiku and the CCG playing a quadruple (?) Agent that played all sides and leaked info and was also behind the ghoulification research? @TheNewWorldFool
Alright, so I think I read like a good 40 something chapters since I last posted lol. Part I'm up to Kaneki is completely different but ngl I'm gonna miss this version of him that had absolutely no fucking chill.
When I read this I thought wow the look on Kaneki's face and this flashback from when he was a prisoner are way more disturbing than anything else this series has thrown at me so far. Man, it got so much more fucked up.....
Skipping ahead a bit, I liked this. Just stood out to me when I first saw it. Also finally learning something about Yomo lol. It only took 200+ chapters
Him turning out to be Touka's uncle with a grudge against Arima for killing his sister was OD even if he just ended up having to get saved by Kaneki afterward
Ayato was never actually a bad guy cuz even in part 1 they hint at him low-key protecting Touka but his change in Re still feels so....drastic. Can't complain too mich tho since we got this scene out of that. Small break from the usually depressing shit that goes on lol.
"Naki appreciation post" is not something I thought I'd tweet about this Jason wannabe but here we are lol. He's an idiot with a heart of gold
Amon mirroring that same first encounter he had with Kaneki. Also the importance of him giving Takizawa the cross. "I believe in you" is the sort of line you hear a lot in other manga but this time it felt like it had so much more weight behind it. This arc has been so good
Figured this would happen eventually. Urie eventually going full ghoul in his thirst for power, I mean. What I didn't see coming though was this random Kamen Rider reference and confession lol. Considering how messed up TG is I'm surprised they actually managed to turn him back.
I feel like the beginning of Re would've been a lot more tolerable if they showed some of this flashback stuff back then instead of focusing so heavily on the Q group who were so unlikable prior to whatshisface dying.
These chapters were so good. Finally getting some closure on some of the older stuff from part 1. Amon finally gets the girl, too.
They were already hinting that she might've turned into a serial killer after her breakdown on
the island but now she's gone full yandere
the island but now she's gone full yandere

Damn. Clown leader just dies just like that? Kinda surprised but good riddance. Also glad Urie didn't die and we got this moment. Nice way to wrap up his whole character arc by forgiving himself and the guy he originally blamed for his father's death.
Damn even robbed her of her revenge after everything. His motivations were a bit confusing ngl. First he tried to use ghoul research to revive his mother, once that didn't work out he teamed up with Furuta to cause this disaster in an attempt to change society's views on ghouls?
Ok almost done, it seems. I'm up to what I'm assuming is the last fight with Furuta. I have mixed feelings about this last arc as a whole cuz it felt a bit rushed but it had its moments, for sure.
I still stand by my comment on the beginning of Re being kind of ass for dropping everything part 1 built on and not continuing from the cliff hanger and having characters missing for over 80+ chapters BUT I do appreciate it a bit more after this.
What happened to the real Rize was confusing. Renji saved her cuz of the old man's deal with Sachi but at some point she gets recaptured and used for experiments again? It's implied this time it isn't all just Kaneki's imagination since she knows things he wouldn't

Probs my last tweet on this long ass thread. Tokyo ghoul was great. Way better than the bad rep it gets, although towards the end the writing falls off a bit mainly due to how rushed it feels, it still ended in a satisfying enough way. (What about Amon and Kaneki's aging tho?)
