will i tweet about this every day? yes.
please educate yourself on how harmful the use of “caucasian” as a substitute for “white” is. also please educate yourselves on the power dynamics in CIS region because misuse of the word doesn’t let us speak up about racism/xenophobia
you block our access to justice and conversations BOTH by being white and using “caucasian” to identify yourself which is inherently wrong and ridiculing white people by using “caucasian” in a negative context bc it makes it impossible for us to fully reclaim the word
to add full context, i will attach several screenshots of articles regarding our history that, i personally think, should have a place in discussions on english-speaking platforms. the ones below show how ridiculous putting an equal sign between “caucasian” and “white” really is
the caucasus has a really long history of colonization and ethnic cleansings that goes as far as the 19th century. nearly the entirety of circassian people have been killed with many others affected, which is why we’re historically held back from development and growth.
another ethnic cleansing/gеnocide happened in the 20th century again under the guise of punishment for “treason” that was nothing short of a lie and a political strategy to tame possible post-war opposition in a huge tyrannical state - 4th pic my own thoughts about this.
that’s to say nothing of the wars in the 90s when nearly an entire republic was levelled with the ground in faux “retaliation” to the republic claiming independence that was - maybe arguably to some - an inside job too. this makes numerous generations experiencing severe trauma.
i hope this provides suffient background information for everyone to understand how harmful this erasure is to people native to the caucasus. english-speaking platforms give many minorities a chance to get support while caucasians are completely misrepresented or erased.
decided to update the thread with more information about how the term was actually appropriated and how its misuse is initially related to the ideas of white supremacy.
the rise of (white) racial theorists in 18th century was explained by the need to justify white supremacy
the person who came up with the mainstream definition of “caucasian” was Johann Blumenbach, who literally collected skulls to find out which ethnic group had the “best” ones in order to come up with a theory that traces white europeans’ ancestry back to that region
eventually he chose the skulls of indigenous caucasians and said that they were “the most beautiful” which is why, according to him, white europeans Must be linked to them somehow - he supported this idea with a false theory that claimed that the mankind came from the caucasus
in the end, this once again centered the racial division around the ideas of white supremacy at the expense of indigenous caucasians’ experiences, which resulted in complete erasure of native groups from any conversations
however, it’s literally clear that white europeans/americans never even inhaled the smell of the caucasus mountains and neither did their ancestors. also none of the other terms he came up with in regards to racial division are used now bc they’ve long been proven inaccurate
the reason why we’ve never discussed this on english speaking platforms is the extreme russification and disenfranchisement in the caucasus region. only a miniscule percent of the population speaks english which is why many don’t even know this term was appropriated
it’s gonna be hard to reclaim the word now given how negatively it’s perceived, but we’ll try bc we’ll never let any tragedy of our nations go unnoticed like it always did before, and i hope it’s understandable that we want to be able to take part in conversations
for many people native to the caucasus publicly stating their microethnicities is dangerous due to the fact that 1) there is a muslim tyranny state that persecutes and tоrtures lgbtq+ folk and opposition 2) the relations between many ethnicities are tense bc of soviet policies
and i rly hope that now it’s clear why people need to reclaim the umbrella term and make sure that people are heard at least on english-speaking platforms
also a small introduction to our typical traits appearance- and culture-wise to make it clear why the article that i cited in the 3rd tweet of the thread mentions darker features and cultural differences
decided to update the thread again. there must be sth inaccurate about racial division that introduced "caucasian" as a generalized term for white people when indigenous caucasians themselves experience racially charged oppression from white people💀

once again, whiteness is a sociohistorical construct, a valid one if interpreted correctly, but assuming that it's scientifically backed by skulls and other eugenic bullshit only reinforces scientific racism that excused colonialism and whitewashed african and asian history
