STROKE: so i saw a post going around teaching you STR, as an acronym to help see the signs of a stroke. Although helpful i personally use BE FAST. i feel thats it’s more effective as certain things are left to be desired from STR.
1. B is for BALANCE
- stroke victims usually notice that along with other symptoms they start to lose their balance
2. E is for EYES
- they start seeing either double visions or can’t see very well through one eye
3. F is for FACE
- This is when one side of their face starts to “droop” ,ask them to smile. when they smile you should see that one corner of their mouth won’t go up. if you’re trying to self diagnose yourself it should feel “numb” like when a dentist puts -
anesthesia on one side of your mouth to fill in a cavity and you can’t feel that side at all for a few hours.
4. A is for ARMS
- Try raising your hands, one side should droop and have limited mobility if not no mobility as you try lifting them
5. S is for SPEECH
- you’ll see them having a slurred speech, if you are self diagnosing it’s like not being able to form a thorough thought, you can’t think, your mind is “foggy”
6. T is for TIME
- this is a time game people, the faster you notice the signs, the less irreversible damage there will be, there’s said to be a 3 hour time frame before irreversible damage is seen so please notice the signs and be quick
In all, be vigilant. Strokes can happen to anyone, but those who are obese, of older age, and have recently experienced some form of head trauma where internal bleeding may occur are at more risk. stay safe!
