2.4 million new claims in just the past week, just 16% lower than a month ago (6/6). This report is just another reminder of how crucial the looming expiration of the extra $600/week FPUC benefit is to the American people. #Savethe600 #ExtendUI https://twitter.com/bencasselman/status/1281204567364034560
The cut-off at the end of the month comes as near-record claimants continue to rely on unemployment: 16.8 million on state UI, 14.4 million on PUA for gig workers and youth, and 850k on PEUC for long-term unemployment.
#datanerd alert: States are reporting back pay for the PUA program. Our double-check of state reports last week found 2.5 million of such payments.
If the Senate allows the $600/week benefit to expire, workers are set to experience a benefit cut of between 50 and 85% depending on the state they live in, with the largest cuts coming in states with large shares of Black claimants. #Savethe600 #ExtendUI

The American people are relying on Congress to extend the expanded $600/week FPUC benefit. Hopefully, today’s report provides the evidence they need. #Savethe600 #ExtendUI
