THIS! This is one of the many reasons why River means so much to me. Even if you hate how her existence came to be, I don't see the sense in dismissing such a complex character.

She lost her parents & acted like it didn't matter to give 11 room to grieve. (11 didn't deserve her) https://twitter.com/bangponds/status/1281190297255456770
She was trained and conditioned to be a psychopath, but we know she still felt so much. Her parents didn't initially raise her and yet she was still their kid through and through. Essentially treated like a lab rat, constantly subjected to the Silence, running away as much as she
could, only to be pulled back in again. She found her way to her parents and let them "raise" her the only way they could. How clever is that? And when it came time to kill the Doctor, she still had a free thinking mind of her own, and gave up her own lives to save him instead.
She had to lie all the time, which can be easy and can be so heartbreaking. And yet, she always made the most of it, breaking the rules, having her own adventures, learning about the universe all on her own while never complaining about what a mess her life was or about the fact
that she had to lie at every turn. Watching her with a younger Amy in The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone hits differently when you know she's worrying about her mother and still can't say a word. And then we see her go back to an older version of Amy who knows her and she takes
care of her then the only way she could - with the truth about the Doctor. When Rory gets zapped back, Eleven's pleading with Amy not to go and River, who could've so easily told her not to go, yells that it's her only chance to see Rory again, because at the end of the day, she
knew that wherever Rory was, that where Amy needed to be and that was more important than any pain their loss caused her or the The Doctor. Even as Amy's telling her goodbye, she keeps her eyes on that angel as she kisses her hand. And lastly, before I continue this thread for an
eternity - which I can, just ask @raffertymacht, she loved the Doctor so completely and never expected an ounce of it in return. She opened herself up to all of that pain and heartbreak and had not one regret about it, told him to not change a single line about it. Yes, their
relationship was tied to every moment in time and space and she damn near destroyed time itself trying not to kill him and she wouldn't exist to end up in that library dying saving him if she hadn't died saving him to begin with, but her telling him to not change a thing wasn't
just about her, it was about both of them. "You watch us run." She'd just realized that he'd always known exactly how she'd die in all the time he known her and she still didn't hesitate. She accepted that it was time and did what she had to do even though she hated the idea of
it all being over, of there not being a way out like there always was before. More than that, she knew her time was coming since before Darillium and she carried on anyway. There's so much more to say, but I'll skip to this bit: River Song deserved the universe and more, and I'm
so glad that for a little while there, it was her playground, and she ended up having all those years with 12 where she knew she was loved, at least by that version of The Doctor at the time.
