Now, I hear you, why not just score everyone a one? Look, the trick is, you can't be the guy who gets death threats from viewers. You've gotta have plausible deniability in your low scores.

Hopefully you get lucky and you can give a cheeky 6 or 7 to someone who has burnt everything because of the "nice atmosphere".

The problem is that as the show has gone on, contestants are clearly aware. The winning score in Come Dine With Me has declined over the years from a 7.5 to a 6.1 (subs please check).
