i think we should be wary of uncritically appealing to the idea of rehabilitation tbh. it can easily imply an endpoint to someone doing harm (which is dangerous, no one is immune to causing harm), or set an arbitrary limit after which someone is irredeemable (and thus disposable)
we know how language and ideas of rehabilitation are used by parole boards who set up endless hoops of useless courses, workshops and psych assessments and i think it can easily be weaponised in a very similar way in the community if the sole focus is on redeeming the individual
it shouldn't just be 'how do we stop this particular person from doing harm ever again' but 'how do we stop anyone in that situation from causing that same harm again.'
(the problem is that nearly always the most efficient way to do the former is exile, isolation and disposal)
