On many occasions I have seen Nigerian Patients telling Doctors to rush their intravenous fluids and medications. There was this one time a Patient tried it because she didn't want to be admitted for Severe Malaria. She rushed her IV fluids containing Quinine.

She almost died.
Intravenous fluids, medications and products are usually administered SLOWLY and for many reasons. If it is rushed, there's also an indication for it.

Rushing IV fluids can put you at risk of fluid overload, where there's excess fluid in your circulatory system, it's deadly!
Besides that, some IV Medications must NEVER BE RUSHED. IV Quinine happens to be one of them. Giving IV products slowly reduces the risk of unnecessary complications.

So please stop telling your Doctor/Nurse to rush your drip. Don't put your life in jeopardy

Please RT abeg.
And trust me, Doctors and Nurses know the rate at which they give fluids (it is always documented), and if you increase it and you die, you used your hands to do yourself. You cannot sue anyone but yourself for malpractice. But na person wey dey alive dey sue.
