Dear @MayorHancock,
Since it’s 1:06am and I once again can’t sleep because of the raging block party in the encampment next to my home (the one that’s been there for months that I’ve called about and mentioned in my letters), I’m sharing a THREAD about some of my day /1
At 7:07am, one of my “neighbors” left the day’s first empty handle of liquor in front house. (I know it looks filled with litter out there but I cleaned every single piece of trash ONE DAY AGO and it already looks like shameful site of blight) @MayorHancock /2
At 7:50am, on morning walk, encountered our neighbor who was worked up because she’d been walking by the encampment (on our block) and was yelled at and told to not use the sidewalk and go around in the street. Scary stuff. She talked about buying a gun @MayorHancock

Around 9:45am, an ambulance and fire truck came to check on someone having an epic drug freakout. It’s been an average day, with about a dozen such episodes on the block, though only saw paramedics twice, which is the lowest in months @MayorHancock /4
At 10:36am, my wife brazenly lit into a group of 8 people from the encampment loitering on our property to move. They actually did. For like ten minutes. 30 minutes later, when she called the police, the group has swelled to 21 people (police never did come) @MayorHancock /5
To be fair to the police, when they do show up they are great but can just offer grim expressions and explain that their hands are tied when it comes to enforcing the petty drug dealing, open consumption, prostitution, and dumping of trash and feces on my steps /6
@MayorHancock
At 11:30am, I joined neighbors in a trash cleanup of the neighborhood. We filled 2 trash bags just on my block (same area I cleaned yesterday). We started at the dead spruce bush my “neighbors” killed by breaking off every single branch /7 @MayorHancock
At 1:20pm, I emailed a vice detective the description of a vehicle parked without plates in the parking lot next door (the one where the City refuses to enforce the trespassing order) that is supplying some of the drug dealers on my corner and across the street /8 @MayorHancock
At 1:22pm, I checked news websites for info about the designated campsites you announced last week. Nothing burger. /9 @MayorHancock
At 1:23, I checked my email to see if your office had responded to my latest message (or maybe even one from last year) detailing our neighborhood’s sense of abandonment by the City of Denver. Still nothing. /10 @MayorHancock
Aside: @MayorHancock You really ought to see this latest email though as I offer several suggestions of viable places for designated camping at minimal cost to the city. Also, one lot owner told us he offered up as lot to the city and was told no thanks🤔
@MayorHancock Urgh, there’s so much more to tell you from this afternoon but a “neighbor” is stealing rocks (that me and my neighbors just spent thousand$ to install) so I’m going to call it in bc cops have been telling us, “How do you know the camp is taking YOUR rocks?” /11
But that’s ok @MayorHancock, this is a typical day filled w stuff that shouldn’t be acceptable as normal but that is my normal, so I can catch you up tomorrow afternoon. Hope that there’s adherence to noise ordinances in your neighborhood that at least allows YOU to sleep /12
Oohohohoh, one other thing @MayorHancock: I’m sure you saw today that Bad Bunny was on the cover of @Playboy which is a very big and groundbreaking deal. I love Bad Bunny and apparently so do my neighbors bc they are blasting him at 1:41am. Good story.
Good morning @MayorHancock! Things in your de facto #autonomouszone are already busy at 7am so I’ll continue to update you.

Called in 1st drug deal on the corner (directly beneath a DPD halo cam)

And filled a whole garbage bag just with bottles and consumed in my own front /12
