As promised here is my CABINET HEARTBREAK thread;
Alot of people including myself are let down with the new cabinet. It's not that we had any people in mind left out. It's that we are coming from a struggle and campaign that promised so much especially new ways of politics.
To some of us that invested our time, at times risking our lives in our own ways, it was not just about taking Mutharika out but also putting in power leaders that promised a change in systems and habits towards political governance. This cabinet inspires the opposite!
From those high expectations, we hoped not to see some of these;
1. Nepotism
2. Bloated- Appeasement Cabinet
3. Tribalism
4. Conflicts of interest
5. State Capture, Corruption
6. New Faces
7. Business as Usual
8. Malawi Osakomera Tonse
So, how does this cabinet reflect on NEPOTISM and FAMILY politics? I have included family politics, to expand the definition of I'm what to speak of;
1. Sidik Mia, his wife and their nice Halima are in the cabinet.
2. The Kandodos are relations of Kamuzu.
3. Roy is JB's son
This looks to me like funders and partners decided to share Malawi in their families. Is this the Tonse Philosophy we voted for?
Now others are saying, the Mias worked hard. Didn't Lucius, Winiko,Kunkuyu, Chidanti to name a few that could have taken the place of one of the Mias?
How does this reflect a BLOATED appeasement cabinet?
To help you understand how awful this is;
On his worst day Mutharika never had to appease a man and his wife by putting them in a cabinet.
On his worst day, Mutharika had a 20 person cabinet.
Did we really need 31 ministers?
How does this cabinet reflect TRIBALISM?
1. The cabinet has only 4 Northerners. Imagine after all the votes, the North gave?
2. The cabinet has 20 from the central&many Chewas.
Does this strike you like the change you voted for?
It like we just replaced Lhomwe with Chewa belt!
On CONFLICTS OF INTEREST. Why does Gospel who owns one of the biggest private media houses become a Minister of information? Why does R Gaffer who runs mining businesses become a minister of mining?
When these guys said they were scrutinizing, this was it?
On STATE CAPTURE , corruption. Appointments of R Gaffar, Mias, Kandodos, Roy mirror that of Mordecai; pay for play. These people funded MCP and now must be rewarded. It means for contracts it will be the same.
Chakwera spoke against this and we voted. Is this what we voted for?
On BUSINESS AS USUAL; I take issue with the political culture. Remember, mindset change has to be a part of any movement. Its not just about changing parties but ideologies&approaches. This kind of politicking is the same that failed UDF and DPP. It feels like we are back to 2016
On Malawi OKOMELA TONSE. This was the word on the campaign. But if positions are shared between families leaving so many who also worked hard, deserved; what are we preaching? That out of 18 million people only the Mias, Kandodos deserve and worked the hardest? No!
Finally, why should this worry you;
1. The political appeasement appointments mean the President is powerless.
2. It means you must expect no merit on appointments to parastatals and embassies.
3. It seems like its business as usual; new leaders same old practices.
Finally to those that would ask what kind of a cabinet I wanted.
1. Not more than 20 ministers with 10 ministries that combine related sectors.
2. Appointments based on merit from with a fair representation from all regions.
3. Politicians from Tonse alliance that are new faces.
In conclusion, I would like to say that we are disappointed because we were promised too much and expected better. Chakwera said, "We will not reward hand clappers, we have a nation to build."
Clearly, he lied or he just read a speech someone wrote.
To Tonse voters, don't be hypocrites; if Mutharika appointed a couple, you would be ripping him apart. Hold Chakwera accountable accordingly!
To Chakwera&Chilima; we trusted you to do right. It's not too late but make no mistake, we will not tolerate being fooled!
End of thread.
And I forgot to add one thing; these appointments mean government has taken over the most influential media houses;
1. MBC
2. Times is an MCP media house through the Kamuzu family
3. Zodiak taken through appointment of its owner as minister.
