Capt. Bana singh Ji was born in a Sikh family in Kadyal , J&k on 6th Jan 1949 , his father ws farmer and uncles were soldiers in IA, In 1969 he joined Army into 8th Bln of JAKLI .

Capt. Sahab was trained at high altitude warfare school in gulmarg and other school at sonmarg, he was promoted as Naib Subedar from Havildar on 16th october 1985.
In 1987 when Pakistanis captured the Quaid Post , Which was highest peak at 6500 mtrs. in Siachen Glacier Area, From this feature Pakistanis could snipe at our army positions and have the clear view of soltoro range & siachen glacier.
On 18 April 1987 Pakistanis fired from this post on sonam pt. killing 2 soldiers. Then Indian Army decided to evict the pakistanis. On 20th April 1987 Bana singh ji was posted to Siachen as part of 8th JAKLI Reg, which was given task to capture Quaid Post.
On 29 May, JAK LI patrol led by 2nd Lt. Rajiv Pande made at an unsuccessful attempt of capturing the post, reslting in deaths of 10 soldrs. After preparing for a mnth, Fresh operation ws launchd & named Operation Rajiv in d hnr of 2nd Lt. Rajiv was led by Maj. Varinder Singh
On 23 June 1987, Multpl attacks wer launchd 2 cptr d post ,The 5-member team led by Nb Sub Bana Singh climbed the steep 457 m high wall of ice, team approachd d Quaid Post frm n unexpctd directn, usng a longr & mor difficlt apprch & sucesfuly captrd d Quaid post on 26 June 1987.
Poor visibility gave cover to the Indian soldiers, Aftr rechin d top, Bana Singh ji fnd singl Paki bunker, He lobd a grende into d bunkr & closd d door, kilin those inside. In hnd 2 hnd combat our soldiers bayoneted some of the Paki soldiers outsid d bunkr.
A few Paki soldiers jumped off the peak. Later, the Indians found six dead bodies of Paki soldiers.On 26 January 1988, Nb Sub Bana Singh was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the highest wartime gallantry medal in India for his bravery during Operation Rajiv.
The peak which he captured was renamed Bana Top in his honour. At the time of the Kargil War, he was the only PVC awardee who was still serving in the Army.Nb Sub Bana Singh ji was promoted Subedar on 1 December 1992, with promotion to Subedar Major on 20 October 1996.
He was given the honorary rank of Captain at his retirement. Honorary Capt Bana Singh retired from services on 31 October 2000. Bana Singh ji's son Rajinder Singh joined the Indian Army in 2008, at the age of 18.
