Breathtaking 58 minutes of Operation Entebbe

On 27June 1976, Flight originated from Israel with destination of Paris had been hijacked by 4 terrorists ( 2 Palestinians + 2 Germans) was forcefully diverted to Entebbe, Uganda. (1/14)

President Idi Amin personally welcomed them and shifted to former airport terminal.
Hijackers seperated isarelis and non Israelis.
148 non-Israelis were released and 94 Israeli passengers along with 12 crew members remained as hostages. (2/14)

Hijackers demanded $5Millon ransom, release of Palestinian terrorists, prisoners and threatened if these demands were not met, they would begin to kill hostages from july1. (3/14)

Hostage takers extended deadline to 4th of July, as Israeli government entered into negotiations also Israel got enough time for planning of rescue operation. Israel tried using many political tricks for solution without success. (4/14)

Then Israeli force started planning to raid entebbe. Raid could not be possible without help from atleast one East African government as they had to aerially refuel 4 to 6 aircrafts. Kenya allowed them to refuel at their airport. (5/14)

Some details of Kenya’s help were forwarded to ugandan commander by Kenyan officer. But Ugandan commander did not informed anyone & dismissed it as Rubbish. (6/14)

Later Mossad and IDF built an accurate picture of airport terminal with the assistance of civilians who helped build the original and took help of released hostages too. (7/14)

After planning of several days Mission begin, 4 IDF planes with 100 soldiers secretly flew to entebbe airport crossing 2000km to Uganda at mindnight without being detected by air traffic control of all in route countries. (8/14)

Lt.Col. Netanyahu’s unit (First aircraft) carried replicant of two jeeps and a black Mercedes, practically identical to the car of then Ugandan president and, (9/14)

appearing as if they were Ugandan forces in familiar vehicles and drove slowly towards old terminal. Lt.Col.(res.) Mor was leading navigator for 2nd, 3rd and 4th Israeli planes which arrived six minutes later carrying troops to fight with Ugandan forces around terminal. (10/14)

4th aircraft was arrived empty to evacuate hostages. Within six minutes IDF soldiers killed terrorists. During crossfire 3 hostage were killed and Rescued 102 hostages. (11/14)

Mission was successful but Lt.Col. Netanyahu, the commander of the first aircraft’s rescue unit, who had been killed while rescuing hostages. Israelis also destroyed Ugandan fighter planes. After evacuation they loaded Lt.Col.Netanyahu’s body into the plane. (12/14)

During departure crossfiring was going on between both side soldiers. Israelis successfuly left Entebbe Airport only 58 minutes after their arrival. Aftermath : Ugandan president order killing of Kenyans living in Uganda for Kenya’s assistance to Israel in raid. (13/14)

Later 245 Kenyans were killed and 3000 fled as refugees.
Operation Entebbe marked a dramatic victory over international terrorism. This was One of the greatest rescue operation in the world. (14/14)
