Hi! So for #NationalVideoGameDay, I wanted to talk about a wonderful moment in this @noclip documentary that has me excited about the future: (at 23:33)
@supergiantgames is a really remarkable indie studio, creating games that have always stood out as unique and genuine. They've got a certain flavor to their games, one that derives a lot of power from hand crafted 2D art, beautiful string instruments, and memorable voice acting
In this particular part of the documentary, the lead of the studio, Greg @kasavin, talks about the fusion of all his team's strengths. You can hear in his reserved, but still excited voice just how happy he is to have witnessed the collide of his team's talents over the years
It's a passion for collaboration and togetherness and codependency that I often find myself afraid to think about. I like being able to control how I communicate to the world
I love being able to talk about passion and be passionate in my own ways. Being able to make stuff like Thought Essays or little particle effect showcases or whatever else is something purely up to me to create and communicate emotion with. Games are something else
Games are the culmination of so many mediums at once. There are so many aspects from the engineering and programming side to things like 3D modeling and texture work and 2D art and animations and voice acting and writing and music and so on and so forth. I can't control all of it
There's all these dimensions of artistic communication I don't have domain over, which can be kinda scary. There's this fear that the thing standing between me and an emotionally resonant experience is the team I have to trust to carry the weight I can't carry myself
But getting to hear Greg’s words on togetherness and the synthesis of ideas has spun that fear into joyful anticipation. It's one big signal to the idea that shared authorship is actually the catalyst for genuine and beautiful experiences, not the wall standing in its way
The idea of being able to create something more meaningful than anything I could have done alone, something that wouldn't have been the same without any of us, and is better for it...that idea now has me excited about the future, not scared
So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you @SupergiantGames for sharing your story, and thank you @noclipvideo for helping them share it
