Susharma was king of Trigarta kingdom and was cousin of Duryodhan’s wife Bhanumati. He was the one who led the attack on Virata, king of Matsya Kingdom during Pandava’s incognito period and seized their wealth and cows.
When on 13th Day of Kurukshetra war Dronachaya suggests Chakravyuh to capture Yudhishthir and end the war, however there was a problem. Arjuna knew how to beat Chakravyuh.
Dronacharya needed volunteers to drive Arjuna away from main battle in order to make his Chakravyuh strategy successful.
Susharma along with his Trigarta warriors volunteered for this task. They too Samsaptaka oath, which meant that they will either kill Arjuna or die trying, and performed their last rites,
because they knew the task of killing Arjuna was almost impossible and no one in their ranks would be left alive to perform their last rites.
It was these Samsaptaka warriors, who lured Krishna and Arjuna away from battlefield on 13th Day, the day of Chakravyuh.
They fought bravely and even managed to climb on Arjuna’s chariot, however were eventually defeated by Arjuna.
