MENTAL HEALTH IN MUSIC (a thread).......
I love that songs are highlighting mental health and promoting healthier exchanges between people. As someone who has been aided by therapy, I think it& #39;s incredible to hear it in music. That said,
there& #39;s a magic that& #39;s been diluted in songwriting. Songs have become so hyper-introspective that we& #39;ve lost our sense of community. Lyrics like "in my head" / "in my mind" / "lying to myself" all sound very "me me me me me" to me.
(This is worth noting, I& #39;m speaking mostly about pop music, and songs that exist in the middle class of Spotify.)
When people sing about their anxiety, it doesn& #39;t help mine. When a song is entirely internal, it doesn& #39;t reach me (specially if there& #39;s no lesson or kicker). A mental spiral with a melody and a beat doesn& #39;t do anything for me.
This style of writing is perpetuating the "me me me" way of thinking. We are pack animals. Community and togetherness help mental issues. I got off my depression meds when I moved and surrounded myself with humans I loved and respected.
Artists who play shows in stadiums are givers, not takers. The community they build is just THAT big. Idk if ANYBODY will read this thread OR care, but I& #39;m here if you wanna talk :P
