A brief #COVID thread to share something that I'm sure has occurred to others but just really slapped me in the face this afternoon. (1/)
I was discussing with someone the hospitalization numbers, and they were trying to say that even though ICUs in some places are becoming full that it's really not that big of a deal because more capacity can be created and people aren't actually being turned away (2/)
Of course, there's some truth to that - if otherwise normal conditions persist.

But...

It's hurricane season...

What if FL gets a major hurricane in the next few weeks? What if Houston has a catastrophic flood event? With hospitals already near capacity? (3/)
And forget weather.

What if a major earthquake strikes CA in the next couple of months? When the health system there is full and dealing with months of COVID induced strain?

It really just hit me exactly how much we're playing with fire here... (/fin)
