A lot of the discourse about restaurants opening is about how servers are at risk

And this is true

However not enough centers around Back of House Staff (Line cooks, prep cooks, dishwashers) and how they are at risk

And they are probably at a bigger outbreak risk than servers
Back of House is less likely to be local to the restaurant. Meaning they have to take public transit, which is an added risk. Many servers can walk to work in cities.

Back of House also works in closer quarters and indoors at all times. It's hard to stay distant on a line
In addition to this, back of house is in a hot kitchen, which means it's harder to wear a mask. Most still do but it is understandable if they take it off for a breath here or there.

Back of house is also more likely to be non White, which due to medical racism is a risk factor
And on top of all of this line cooks are more skilled than servers but frequently make less than we do.

They are also very likely to be uninsured, underinsured, and are more likely than servers to be undocumented.

So financially they are in a more precarious position
If they get a mild case they are less likely to be able to afford time off work, which means they may go to work sick (and I don't blame them).

If they get a bad case they are less likely to be able to afford the medical bills or have insurance of any quality.
So yes tip your server but also fight for better wages across the board and single payer healthcare.

The people prepping your food who you don't see are tremendously skilled and are also putting themselves at risk so you can have onion strings and a vodka soda
And also, stop ordering vodka sodas it is a flavorless drink. If you insist on doing this shit please get something with taste.
"But if I don't go out won't all these people be out of a job?"

Yeah actually. I don't have a good answer there.

Advocate and pressure your reps to extend unemployment benefits and loans for businesses.
Also advocate for year round wage replacement sick time.

Fun fact: every restaurant every year is a petri dish for sickness because no one can afford to call off work.
And yeah this does mean take out is also iffy. However at the very least restaurants doing take out only can use a skeleton crew as opposed to a full line, full service staff, and a ton of customers
"Does going out to eat make me a bad person?"

Not necessarily. But were you pushing bars to open? Salons? Why were you doing that? Was it really because you were concerned the staff wasn't making money? Or was it for your personal convenience
Do you advocate for UBI? Do you do any activism beyond voting for democrats? You need to be holding their feet to the fire. You need to advocate actively for better working conditions and wages. Plenty of democrats avoid these things.
In between brunches are you going to any anti police rallies? Any black lives matter marches? Are you giving money to groups that lobby for better conditions? Or are you ordering another round of drinks.
Fight for 15 is a good place to start.
And also fight for legal status for undocumented immigrants
