A reminder, for those of you looking ahead to tomorrow morning's #SCOTUS decisions in the Mazars cases: The more important of the two cases, involving congressional subpoenas, does *not* involve Trump's tax returns. It's about his financial & banking records more broadly, ... /1
The subpoena in the other case (Vance) does cover tax returns, as well as other financial info, but it's less important for immediate governance purposes b/c the info will be disclosed to a NY grand jury, which is legally bound not to disclose it publicly. /3
And to plan your morning, here's the likely POA: At 10:01, the Court issues McGirt, written by Gorsuch unless he joined the left side, in which case SS would write. At 10:11, Vance will be issued, likely written by SGB, and upholding the NY subpoena (w/perhaps 6-8 votes). /4
And at 10:21 or so, CJ for the Court in Trump v. Mazars. Up for grabs: He might uphold some (e.g., HPSCI) or all of the House subpoenas, or rule that they all require further justification. Unlike Nixon Tapes and Clinton v. Jones, it almost certainly won't be unanimous. /5
But then again, no one thought those two decisions would be unanimous, either--indeed, many predicted Nixon and/or Clinton would win. /6
