Federer has the same number of wins in majors against Big Three members as Nadal has losses: 10.

Federer has 21 losses, and Nadal had 19 wins.

Winning percentages:

Nadal — 65.5%

Federer — 32.3%
Prime years (Nadal: 2005-2014, Federer: 2004-2012):

Nadal — 18-5 (78.3%)

Federer — 8-13 (38.1%)

When GOAT debating, I would bring this up first in every anti-Federer argument and every pro-Nadal argument. Context matters, of course, but there is a massive difference here.
By the way, Nadal’s five losses:

2006 and 2007 Wimbledon finals (lost to Federer)

2011 Wimbledon and USO finals, 2012 AO final (lost to Djokovic)

In each of these matches, the winner was in exceptional form. Nadal’s stretch of dominance against the other two in majors from...
...2005 to 2014 is very impressive. He at one point led Djokovic 9-3 in majors and at another point led Federer 9-2.
People will say that the stats are over saturated with French Open matches, but that doesn’t make up for the fact that in their primes, Nadal’s winning percentage against members of the Big Three was *more than twice as good as Federer’s*.
In majors^^

This is one of the main reasons that I think Nadal’s claim will be better than Federer’s when all’s said and done. In a debate that is centered around majors, Federer has this shackle, while possibly the main argument against Nadal is that he never won the WTF.
Some may put less weight on these numbers than I do, and more weight on the ATP finals than I do. I’m aware that this is just one way to look at things.

But in my view, it’s hard to consider Federer the outright GOAT in spite of these statistics.
This take by the late Bud Collins is worth a listen, after the 2009 AO final. Again, I know that this is just one way to look at things, but given that Nadal extended his dominance in majors over Federer, and Djokovic now leads him 11-6 at the slams, his case is a bit flimsy imo.
Federer is still a GOAT candidate, there’s no doubt about that.

But what I’m getting at is that if he loses his lead in majors, the 10-21 record in slams against the other two is crippling to his case, imo.

Also, for the purposes of this thread, I’ve just compared him to...
...Nadal. Djokovic is squarely in the conversation, of course, and likely has the best chance to end up as the GOAT.

To conclude, I’m sorry if this annoys anyone; it’s just one angle on a part of the GOAT debate and I understand if others don’t see it this way.
Nadal has** 19 wins
