ALRIGHT the story you’ve all apparently been waiting for.

On the 7th of July I grabbed all my shit and moved from Los Angeles back home to Sydney and it was the craziest experience of my life. Here’s what happened.
I got to an abandoned LAX at 5am and had the breeziest check in experience ever, besides some weight issues but they don’t matter. I got through check in and security within about 40 minutes and that’s only cause of the weight issues and goodbyes with my roommate.
I had 2 hours to wait until my flight to San Francisco because there were no international flights going from LAX. 90% of the terminal was closed and for the most part was very quiet. We boarded the plane in about 15 minutes because there only about 30% capacity
I can’t tell you about the flight cause I slept instantly and woke up on landing but once we got to SFO it was a breezy change over to my international flight. They boarded the plane opposite with the rear rows boarding first which is the way it should be anyway but whatever
Once I got seated it became even more clear just how much this was a pandemic flight. There was a total of 8 people in my section. I had the row to myself and no one behind me so I slept for 90% of the flight which was amazing
We had to wear masks the entire flight so by the time I took mine off for more than a few minutes to eat food, I had worn one for about 24 hours. The top of my ears had an irritation rash and were sore but no one complained. I didn’t see anyone take it off unncessarily.
Once we landed shit got crazy. We couldn’t move cause we had to wait to receive briefing pamphlets giving us a run down on covid and quarantine and what to do if we get sick etc etc
We exited the plane and were directed towards the baggage claim but first got stopped for screening by medical professional wearing full PPE suits. They took our temperatures and gave us more info about what to do if we get it and blah blah
I got through customs in about 5 minutes because I was at the top of the line of the group cause they exited the plane from the front this time. Once I got through customs I had to go through a makeshift passage to baggage claim cause the rest of the airport was shut down
I got to baggage claim and quickly discovered just how shut down the airport was. We were the only flight. The entire international airport and we were the only plane. Our bags came out before we did man 😂
They had removed the standard trolleys for safety but I managed to score a super large trolley that you’d find in like a warehouse or something. I had to convince the dude to give it to me cause they were for families but when I told him that I alone had 5 suitcases he gave in 😂
Once we left baggage claim I had to prove I was an Australian citizen then got directed down another makeshift passage where the federal police were waiting for us. I proved my citizenship again and got checked off the list they had of arriving passengers
Outside of the airport there were about 5 Murray’s coaches waiting for us. Alongside them, were the Australian Defense Force. In full uniform. I felt like I was coming from a zombie apocalypse and they were rescuing us or something
A few weeks ago I was protesting for Black Lives Matter where the American National Guard were deployed and last night members of the Australian Defense Force were loading my luggage onto a bus. I can not wrap my head around that.
I got on a bus with a bunch of other criminals lol and we had to sit and wait without any knowledge of where we were going. A dude asked the driver and he said he doesn’t get told until he’s pretty much closing the door and even then he can’t tell us until we arrive.
I later realised that they have to do that so no one tells a loved one on the way and has them waiting on arrival to smuggle them out of the group lol
We arrived at the hotel which was blocked off by police and there was the Defense Force waiting for us once again. We had to fill out and sign paperwork then we left the bus in small groups where we then told an army dude which bags were ours for them to take for us
I had to once again prove my citizenship (I proved it 4 times that night) then “checked in” to my room. I got given more paperwork then had to fill out info with police officers because it’s a federal offence now to leave my room or break quarantine protocol lol
2 army dudes got my bags for me and escorted me to my room. I know what number I am but they had my key. Basically they dropped me and my bags off then shut the door behind them and said they’ll see me in 2 weeks. I don’t have a room key and I’m not allowed to leave my room.
I’ll be fed breakfast, lunch and dinner where a bag of food will get dropped off in front of my door followed by a knock and a call out for “dinner” or whatever. Like I’m a prisoner in isolation 😂
We’re allowed to order groceries to be delivered but any package will get screened first because we aren’t allowed to order large amounts of alcohol or any cigarettes. Anything that we order or need will just get dropped off in front of our door followed by a knock
This whole experience is so wild. We’ll see what the next 2 weeks provide. But hey, at least this is my view 🥰
For all those who asked over the past 24 hours. Yes, I’m safe. I’ve got my footy 😂 I can’t leave my room but who needs to really?!
