ok here's my shymurr thought; simplifying it to 'oh murr doesn't know how shylock feels' or 'oh it's completely one-sided' as in 'murr just doesn't return his feelings at all' kinda misses the point of it

when i say 'it's not one-sided' people tend to think i mean 'murr loves him back & will stop being an amoral catboy and they will settle down and have two kids ' and like. no not at all

if someone likes you back but not /in the way you like them/ or /enough to change for you/ it's not one-sided. i don't really mean this in the 'one party wants this to be romantic and the other wants it to be platonic' way bc i really...don't know how to unpack

'platonically larping as someone's pet' and if i think about this for more than two seconds i take psychic damage. I'm taking psychic damage right now

my point is that i keep thinking about shylock framing it as 'this woman loved him but he didn't realize, how sad, she's an idiot' (parallels being drawn between the two of them) and IMMEDIATELY AFTER seeing a flashback where murr says 'do you WANT me to flat-out turn you down'

and i think about shylock thinking of current murr as radically different than the old one & thus unaware but...every single soul shard has the 'old' personality & doesn't seem to want to go back. he is PERFECTLY CAPABLE of having normal conversations as we see in walpurgis
