For those of you who have a small following, aren't getting engagement, and are getting frustrated:

I'm 40 years old and I've gained 80 followers in the month of July so far.

5 Lessons I've learned in the last few weeks on Twitter
Lesson 1: Don't be afraid to put yourself out there

No one judges you as harshly as you do

I have my fat before picture up as my profile picture!

I want people to know that I am a regular guy and not just some "guru" who has all the answers. I'm figuring this out as I go
Lesson 2: Don't be afraid to reach out to people

Everyone on here knows they are on "social media"

They are here to connect just like you are

Now the big accounts, those folks get busy so they may not respond as quickly as you'd like but they almost always get back to you
Lesson 3: Don't be afraid to comment on tweets

The number one thing that has gotten me followers is my willingness to comment

Comment directly to the tweet but also comment in the comments

The comments are full of people like you trying to learn and inform and make their way
Lesson 4: Don't be afraid to buy products

Some people might be on twitter just to make a buck

Most people, especially your favorite people to follow, are here to help people and make a buck

Their content is really helpful and can inform you and motivate you to grow
Lesson 5: Don't be afraid to focus on one thing

I got on twitter and quickly became overwhelmed with how much was out there

I bought all the products

I tried to do it all but I was terrible

It wasn't until I chose a niche that I started to see results
