Most people who know me realise that I’m not a virologist, so take what follows with caution. There’s a lot of talk of aerosol transmission of Covid-19 today. I’d always assumed it was likely there just didn’t seem be enough people coughing/sneezing 1/2
So I turned to google scholar and turned up this: https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms2922?origin=ppub.">https://www.nature.com/articles/... It looks at the transmission of influenza. Short version: about 50% of cases are from aerosols. Can’t see why this shouldn’t apply to Covid.
Just to add to the cheerful nature of this thread, the influenza viruses are not enveloped which probably limits their viability in aerosols (high surface/volume ratio). Coronaviruses are enveloped and thus more stable...
