I need to finish Howard Bryant’s piece on Bruce Maxwell, but I feel compelled to say something about the Aaron Judge component. It is no surprise the Yankees are trying to suppress Judge’s voice. If Aaron Judge is about it he needs to speak out. What are the Yanks gonna do?
I fee very strongly about this. This is no longer the time to let these corporations and franchises muffle these voices. Players have power and leverage. Judge is the franchise guy. The world is a racist cesspool and if Judge has thoughts share them.
And everyone knows how much I love the Yankees. I do not hide that at all, but stifling a Black player’s voice during these times is insulting and embarrassing. They need to join the moment. Show people like me you care. This also lends to this thought I’ve had for a long time.
There are WAY too many sports franchises that are in fear of the “stick to sports” crowd. Those people are terrible. Why do they have so much power and influence? They aren’t the only ones with money. Half of them are regular old folks with 100 followers. Why is this the case?
There are a whole bunch of other fans out here that are good people. Why don’t we have a say in all of this? Why is there so much conservatism? Why are people cool with stifling voices of people that are oppressed? I just don’t get it. It’s frustrating as hell.
I want to hear Aaron Judge speak. I thought Derek Jeter’s approach was good for Derek Jeter. That is fine, but the world is different now. If Judge wants to be a leader beyond the Yankees he should do it. It is time. We need people like him.
I apologize for the typos. I’m typing furiously because I’m admittedly annoyed. Maybe there is more to the Judge thing than we know. I will add that caveat. I fully trust Howard Bryant though. And in any case, no team should censor their players about this. None.
