I blame celebrity culture that told so many western public figures that they are entitled to mass adoration, all the time, everywhere. Of course, those people still have peer company & tables at which to say whatever. They're just unhappy that social media isn't as warm to them.
I do however support their dragging in media firings as part of the issue. I, of course, want to be unfire-able, no matter how below standard my work is, even though my job is content quality control. Firing me is an attack on free speech. In all cases.
Demanding free expression protections for privileged writers & intellectuals with access to legacy platforms, whom journalists will report on even when they are being juvenile? SMH. Those protections are better deployed for the unwashed masses they like to call online mobs.
How different is what they are calling for, from Museveni using the cyber bullying laws to have police protect himself from Stella Nyanzi? In both cases, privileges people are drawing on their powers and access to make uneven ground even more uneven, to their benefit.
Anyway, people with power, will always see mass acquisition of any amount of it, even just the power to mock them, as theft of their own birthright.
These people have built huge careers telling the world whatever their minds conjure up but if you do the same, especially if your mind is thinking of them unflatteringly, you're both overstepping and threating society dangerously.
