For every like I’ll post a hip hop song that deserves recognition as its respective place among the rest of the culture based on the amount I get (e.g. 5 likes=top 5 songs, 10 likes= top 10, etc)
based on how I feel on this earth, today, as a Nuyorican, the best hip hop song ever made is Twinz (Deep Cover 98) by Big Pun and Fat Joe. You can call me biased. You can call me crazy. But if you can find flows AND lyrics like that anywhere else, LMK.
The second best hip hop song ever made is One Love by Nas. Everything about this song is immaculate. The beat produced by Q Tip of A Tribe Called Quest. The storytelling. The honesty. The imagery. 3 verses, and each one is arguably better than the next.
The third best hip hop song ever made is (fittingly) Hip Hop by Mos Def. If you ever doubted that Hip Hop is the most lyrically intricate and verbally complex form of music (and poetry) here is your proof.
The fourth best hip hop song ever made is Fuck the Police by NWA. In light of recent events, I feel as if this is self explanatory. To this day, the absolute IMPACT is incalculable.
The fifth best rap song ever made is Shook Ones part II. The hip hop equivalent of The Godfather II. Prodigy’s perfect verse, written at the age of 19. The end scene of 8 mile. Ain’t no such thing as halfway crooks. Timeless
The 6th best rap song ever is TROY by Pete Rock & CL Smooth. It holds a special meaning for me bc a mentor of mine was their gym teacher. The city of Mount Vernon is a large part of my life, & has a very large Portuguese population (mentioned in the song!
The 7th best hip hop song is The Choice is Yours (Revisited) by Black Sheep. What else can I say but

Engine Engine #9
On the New York Tranist Line
And if my train falls off the track
PICK IT UP PICK IT UP PICK IT UP!!!!

The 8th best hip hop song ever made is Rigamortis by Kendrick Lamar. Two words: breath control. Also, two more words: DAMN KENDRICK!!!!
The ninth best hip song ever made is Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac. Beyond the veil of hyper masculinity, west coast gangsta shit, and his rivalry with Biggie, Tupac was one of the most complex minds of the 20th century, and that’s not an exaggeration.
With all of the above kept in mind, the 10th best hip hop song is Kick in the Door by Biggie Smalls. I want to point out the woman interviewing “The mad rapper” states her name is Shay, from New Rochelle, also, that this beat is nasty. Thank you DJ Premier

The 11th best hip hop song ever made is Lost Ones by Lauryn Hill. Some may ask why I chose this particular song from her catalog, when the obvious choice would be That Thing. While I agree that it is a better song overall, I ask DID SHE REALLY SPIT THO???
thought I forgot about this thread? Nope. The 12th best rap song is “Power” by Kanye West. It reminds me of a simplier time when a young man from the south side of Chicago who just lost his mother and his fiancée put his heart on his sleeve for all to see.
