Not-so-popular-take (at least, amongst the Miami food world): I agree that they should be shutting down indoor dining. Honestly, I think everything, not just restaurants, but gyms, beaches, etc, should be shut down again. Our numbers are way too high (27% positive today alone!)
We opened up way earlier than we should have, and now we are paying the price - both health wise and economically. HUGE failure of our leadership.
But organizing protests, or sending letters to the leadership saying you're going to defy orders, or most cringe worthy: posting memes saying "chefs lives matter" isn't going to do much at this point. This mess is much bigger than us right now.
Our hospitals are overwhelmed, and it's only going to get worse. The only way we come back from this is everyone stay home for a while and stop the spread. Then when we do reopen, we do it much more cautiously and listen to health officials.
Also, just your friendly reminder that all of this could have been avoided and was preventable. Look at Europe! They are enjoying their summer right now (sans Americans).
And finally, for the love of baby Jesus people, vote!
