Working on 30+ resumes in the last 2 months alone, I've noticed a few things.

Your resume is your sell sheet - it should focus on what the buyer wants to see. What are the KEY things they expect from you at your level - starting/mid/veteran - and what job are you aiming at? Do you clearly communicate you've got the skills for it?
With hundreds of applicants vying for a single role, recruiters/HR folks are doing quick scans to eliminate people on that first pass. If they can't see what they're looking for, usually that means you're put in the discard pile.

Also, if you're job hunting, make sure your social media reflects that (if safe to do so). Update that LinkedIn to match to your freshened up resume. Update that website/portfolio with your best work.

Having positive working or personal relationships with people opens more doors than applying for things out of the blue.
Cold calls - applying where you know no one - are harder to get past screening vs warm calls - where someone has vouched/passed you on.

After you get that first call back, it's off to the interview. Straddling the line between confident and obnoxious can be hard for some folks. Most folks are uncomfortable with chatting up their accomplishments.
Thoughts on "we're looking for the right fit." Sometimes that means "we want to keep our studio homogenous (the same)" or they found someone that seems to attitudinally fit in better based on interviews/previous relationships.

If you're able to get it, feedback on your resume/cover letter from knowledgeable people goes a long way.
