The whole firing people for political stuff is complicated

If you work at McDonald’s and run some right wing twitter account you probably shouldn’t be fired

If you’re a writer at a newspaper and have a super far right twitter account you should probably be fired
Also if you start talking about that stuff openly at the job that’s very different as it directly impacts the job and hurts the work environment
And none of this is a legal thing. The idea that the first amendment should apply to workplaces is fucking insane. Like it’s such a vague concept like if someone starts talking at work about how all women deserve to be raped that’s a political opinion, but also hurts the work env
I do agree with destiny somewhat that we should probably not have even stuff like landlords kicking out tenants for political views though. Well as long as it’s not like you have huge political shit all over your door that can impact the landlord’s business directly
TLDR legally nothing should change, but this stuff should probably be contained to the platform/place you do this stuff, unless you are a public figure or representative for a company in your daily life.
I do think there’s some argument if the word gets out at your workplace that you hate black people and it makes people uncomfortable there but for some stuff like housing that makes me super uncomfortable. Idk.
Also if you work at McDonald’s and run a political twitter where you say where you work in your bio or something that’s fair game then imo
