My partner is a teacher, and so far in his decade-plus career, this whole reopening "conversation" has been, by far, the most egregious and damning example of disrespect and disregard for teachers' safety and well-being. https://twitter.com/PhilipRucker/status/1280897657175773191
Let's also not forget students' parents (8th grader lost his mom to COVID two weeks after she came in for parent-teacher conferences), relatives of staff members (a colleague lost BOTH parents to COVID), children themselves also known to be at risk of COVID-related illness/death
Main questions that come to mind (I'm not a teacher - this is barely scratching the surface, probably): who is disinfecting classrooms between classes? If teachers, how much more time are they given to do so? Hazard pay?
De Blasio says parents could choose to keep their students at home for 100% remote learning. If a class's materials and work are already all online, is there any reason why a teacher wouldn't be permitted to teach remotely from home if they also felt schools were unsafe?
