THREAD: Our commitment to health & safety drives everything that we do, and it will drive us into the new school year. As #COVID19 cases rise across the U.S., we know the 2020-21 school year will be like no other. Today we announced important info on what that will look like.
. @NYCSchools students will be learning 5 days/week. To accommodate physical distancing, we're preparing to deliver their education through blended learning: students will be taught on-site in school for part of the week and will learn remotely on the other days of the week.
Any family can also choose all-remote learning, for any reason. But we know from 400K+ survey responses that the majority of families want as much in-person instruction as possible, and we will work to maximize it at every turn while staying within health and safety requirements.
Most students will attend school in person 2 days/week. Schools will send specific student schedules in August. We'll have new health and safety protocols in buildings, like face coverings in almost all cases, increasing handwashing & sanitizer, nightly deep-cleanings, and more.
We'll continue to lead with the lens of equity and excellence, giving your child what they need to excel—and knowing it will be different in a time of crisis. We remain focused on high-quality, tailored instruction and social-emotional supports for every student.
Our plans must be nimble so we can adjust & update as the health landscape continues to evolve. We're also awaiting guidance from the State & will be coordinating closely once it's released. At every turn, we will keep families informed with regular updates & info sessions.
