A thread of things I've noticed on Monster MV by Red Velvet's Irene&Seulgi.

(+ possible theories)

ps: please keep in mind that it's only my interpretation

First of all, the MV is so good it's perfect. If you haven't watch it, please watch it first before reading this thread.

Also, I want to thank all the people involved in the making of the song and MV for creating this masterpiece.
SM better give them a raise or bonus!

Ok, let's start.

So, in the first scene we are greeted by seulgi who is crawling toward irene. At the start, I actually not sure of who's the real monster, but on the first scene, it looks like seulgi is trying to confront irene.

Also it's important to point out, from the teasers, they always said "1 body 2 shadows." They even did videos where they were interviewed as each other. (I guess they also lowkey mock the fans who couldn't tell the girls apart on their debut days lol)

This concept can also be seen in the MV through the dance choreo. Like how they switch places on this one,

Or on this one where you can see seulgi in 1 frame, then the frame suddenly change to irene.

I love this shot so much. It's as if we were looking inside of seulgi, and irene is there back in seulgi's mind like something that always creeps deep inside of us.

Pay attention to seulgi's and the dancers' hand movements;
How the dancers hands are like crawling around her and then she makes a little gun gesture.
So from this, we can assume that irene is her bad thoughts and fear. It can also portray how people like to overthink things.

Also this irene. And that shot when she's staring straight to the camera, notice that the bed sheet behind her make an illusion of black wings. This, I believe, is also intentional.

So assuming irene is seulgi's inner demon, then the opening scene can be interpreted as seulgi reaching deep to the bottom of her mind to confront her demon.
And this part shows them fighting; Seulgi wants to tame irene while irene wants to keep controlling seulgi.

Finally they are facing each other (the scene which shook the whole fandom). Now the choice for seulgi is to fight irene, or embrace her as a part of herself.
